St Michael's is an Eco Church

Land

In late January some of the team took part in the annual RSPB Birdwatch. This involved watching for one hour to count the birds seen in one location - in our case this was the Church garden. The following made an appearance:

  • 3 Robins
  • 3 Blackbirds
  • 1 Blue tit
  • 1 Coal tit
  • 1 Dunnock
  • 10 Wood pigeons
  • 14 Starlings
  • 2 Magpie

After much hard and loving work the church garden is beginning to flourish and become a welcoming and contemplative place.

The garden is once again a popular place for local workers to have lunch.

Well done all who have worked so hard to achieve this wonderful garden - a developing space for plants and wildlife to thrive and where people can relax and contemplate while engaging with nature.

Here are some photos of the work that's been completed.

Garden Benches
Several trees have been planted.
Garden Lavender
Lavender has been planted around the new Narthex building.

… and coming up soon …

Garden East side
The east side of the church is cleared awaiting planting.
Garden Logpile
A log pile will be sited to encourage wildlife and a Bug hotel to be constructed - here we see the materials.

Garden Waterbutt
A water butt will be positioned here.
Garden Memorial
The Memorial garden will get a facelift.
