The Eucharist
The Eucharist is one of seven sacraments of the Church. A sacrament is a transforming event in the life of the Church.
The Eucharist is transformative because it is where we meet with God through the real presence of Christ in the bread (Jesus' body) and the wine (Jesus' blood).
The Greek word Eucharist means 'thanksgiving' and this worship offers those who take part an opportunity to thank God as well as an opportunity to grow in faith and service.
The Eucharist is a drama played out in four acts or movements:
the Preparation-Gathering when we arrive in church and say sorry for turning away from God;
the Liturgy of the Word when we hear the narrative of God's love for his people;
the Liturgy of the Sacrament which recreates Jesus' passion, death and resurrection and, finally,
the Dismissal which sends the people of God out into the world to serve it.
